Oli Mittermaier (CEO & Co-founder)

Oli is a founding partner and CEO of EXLI. Over the past 20 years Oli has successfully founded and managed startups and provided management consulting services to both startups and multinational corporations. He is a trainer candidate with the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute (SIYLI) as well as a teacher-in-training at the Mindfulness Institute.  Prior to founding EXLI, he was a field instructor with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).  He has also has trained with Marshall Rosenberg, founder of the Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC) and is certified in administering EQi and EQ360 assessments. Oli received both his graduate (MS in Energy Sustainability and Policy) and undergraduate degrees (BA in Philosophy) from the University of Pennsylvania.  When not spending time in the backcountry he can be found playing in his band or jumping on a trampoline with his 2 kids.

Raj Gill, B.Sc., ART., CPCC. (co-founder)

Raj is a founding partner of EXLI and the Director of Prosperity Circles Coaching International in BC Canada.  She is a published author (NVC Toolkit for Facilitators) and a trainer certified by the International Centre for Nonviolent Communication. Her practice includes Coaching and Training in Inclusive Leadership, Communication with Compassion and Emotional Intelligence. Over the past 13 years Raj has coached entrepreneurs, doctors, youth, couples and inmates to get results through their ideas, words and actions (IWA). Her work also includes curriculum development and teaching with Cowichan Intercultural Society, the Justice Institute of BC., UBC, Langara College and Correctional Service of Canada to name a few.  Raj brings over 30 years of experience in teaching, training and facilitation to her practice. Two of Raj’s role models are Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King. She is a strong believer in the power of compassion and human connection for resolving conflict and creating business success.  Raj has provided trainings in Africa, Central & South America, North America and Ireland.

Teo Nissen, MD (Co-founder)

Teo is a founding partner of EXLI and orthopedic surgeon by training. His experience with medical education, community-based hospitals, private practice medicine and international medicine provides him with a unique expertise in leadership development within the health care arena. Over the past 15 years, Teo has worked with international medical missions in Mexico, Guatemala and South Africa. He has been involved with international relief organizations including Operation Rainbow, Orthopeadic Overseas, and the Institute for Global Orthopaedics and Traumatology. He has leadership training from NOLS and has received training in the Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator (RHETI).  Teo has a special interest in integrating medical relief work as a form of experiential learning in the education and development of social and emotional intelligence. He is certified in administering the EQi and EQ360.

Newt Bailey - Newt is a communication and leadership trainer, and mediator/facilitator. Newt has previous experience in sales, high-school teaching and administration, software engineering, and corporate leadership. Newt supports both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations in building a culture of communication excellence - helping them solve hard problems using so-called "soft" skills. Newt is a physics graduate from the University of Oxford, in the UK. He has devoted a great deal of energy and time to climbing the cliffs of England, Wales, and California's Yosemite Valley. Newt's training style owes a lot to his experience as an improviser and stage performer, and he has a reputation for finding the funny side of most situations. (www.newtbailey.com)

George Fleming - George is a consultant, executive coach, trainer and speaker who helps individuals, leaders and teams to experience game-changing breakthroughs in their vision, performance and results. George began his 20+ year career in technical sales at GE followed by several years of helping Fortune 500 clients (including HP, Lucent, Amex, Amazon) with their branding and advertising.  Currently, as founder of Insight Action, his clients include Roche Pharmaceutical, Genentech, CHRISTUS Health, RE/MAX, Prudential, Square D, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Volvo. George earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with honors from North Carolina State University and a Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. He lives in the mountains of North Caroline with his wife and two children.

Marcia Hughes - Marcia is President of Collaborative Growth.  As a master trainer and facilitator she helps organizations align their strategic planning with their goals, values, and organizational behavior.  An international expert in emotional intelligence, leadership development, conflict resolution and communications, Marcia is a member of the EI Consortium, and co-author 5 books on emotional Intelligence including The Emotionally Intelligent Team, and Emotional Intelligence in Action. Clients include the World Bank, Medtronic, Amex, Toronto School Board, and many federal and state governmental agencies. She served as a special assistant to the Executive Director of the Department of Public Health and currently serves as an officer and member of the Board of Trustees, St. Anthony's Central Hospital.  She holds a JD from George Washington University and a MPsych from University of Colorado at Denver.

Ulrich Nettesheim - Ulrich has spent the last 20 years advising CEOs, Board Chairs, business unit heads and functional leaders in various industries including Fortune 500 high-tech, consumer packaged goods, financial services, healthcare, and professional services. He is a frequent lecturer at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business and through his most recent start-up, Umanity, LLC, leads graduate-level workshops on leadership and high performance teams. Ulrich completed his graduate studies at Columbia University in Organizational Psychology and Business Administration.  In addition to being an avid student of human nature, he also is a "soccer fanatic" and lay musician.  He lives in Berkeley, CA with his wife and 2 boys.

Kat Smithhammer - Kat has been teaching, facilitating, coaching and building highly effective teams in the classroom, outdoors and with organizations for over 17 years. Some of her past clients include NASA, the Wharton School, the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Google, and Timbuk2 (to name a few!). Kat approaches life with curiosity, creativity and awe. Usually laughing (at times referred to as a katcophony) and smiling, she is passionately fascinated with the growth and development of individuals, teams and organizations. In addition to her leadership training work (with both NOLS and Leadership at Play), Kat currently serves on the Valley Advocates for Responsible Development (VARD) Board of Directors and mentors graduate students of Prescott College. She has a M.A. in Leadership (Royal Roads University), B.Ed. (Queen's University) and a B.A. (Trent University).

James Terrell - James is VP of Collaborative Growth, where he applies his expertise in interpersonal communication to help a variety of public and private sector clients anticipate change and respond resiliently. He has coached business and government leaders on 5 continents, co-authored 5 books on emotional intelligence books, and is co-developer of the first scientifically validated assessment of Team Emotional Intelligence (TESI). He helped train over 300 collateral duty mediators for over a dozen federal agencies, worked as a psychotherapist in private practice for many years, and served as executive director of the Syntropy Institute, a not-for-profit research organization investigating how communication training impacts human effectiveness.
